Dear friend,

You are holding the "starting issue" of the journal of the Liberal Jewish Community in Hamburg (LJGH). This magazine is intended not only for readers of the Jewish faith, but for all those who are interested in "Jewish" topics: Jewish life, Jewish art and also Jewish politics (if one can even speak of such). This does not mean that only devout Jews can write articles for our magazine or that only Abraham, Sarah and Moses can be its main characters. As you know, Jews were involved in everything that happened in the world. And even when they weren't involved, our "friends" always made it appear as if Jews were involved. Therefore, within the pages of our magazine, we can boldly mix and match articles on all sorts of subjects, as long as they are well-written and interesting. And you – our readers – decide how attractive and interesting our magazine will be.

In our magazine, as in every other magazine, there are permanent sections that you will also find in the next issues. However, there is not yet one category in this issue: letters to the editor. Of course not, because there were no readers yet! But now that there are readers, we very much hope that there will also be the first letters to our magazine. Write to us about anything that's burning under your nails, criticize us - and that's the main thing - let us know if you have new suggestions and ideas.
As usual on such occasions, we wish the "newborn" a long life and good health - so many, many readers!

Shalom!

Dear Readers!

"WORT СЛОВО מילה" – is the first post-war Jewish magazine in Hamburg! It is also deeply symbolic that its publisher is the "still young" Liberal Jewish Community. We are an artistic-journalistic and socio-political magazine intended for both German-speaking and Russian-speaking readers. We try to build "bridges" between history and the present, between history and our everyday life.
Germany... the home of the great philosophers, scholars, poets and composers. Many invisible historical and spiritual threads connected the German Jews with their homeland. In their eyes, they were not just citizens of Germany, they felt a deep connection to this country. They all genuinely considered Germany their homeland. Unfortunately it all ended with the insane attempt at the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question" - with concentration camps and with the crematoria ovens. The statement made by Rabbi Leo Baeck in New York in 1945 after his liberation from the Theresienstadt concentration camp was very significant:
"For us Jews from Germany, a historical epoch has come to an end. Such an epoch comes to an end whenever a hope, a belief, a confidence has to be finally buried. It was our belief that German and Jewish spirit on German soil meet and become a blessing through their marriage. This was an illusion - the epoch of the Jews in Germany is over once and for all".
That's what the majority thought at the time. It seemed that there was no future in Germany for the surviving Jews, that their thousand-year sojourn on German soil was at an end.
But life taught us better: Jewish communities have sprung up again in Germany, and the emigration of Jews from the countries of the former Soviet Union has breathed new life into these communities. It is now important to introduce these people to the centuries-old traditions of the Jewish people, to their history, religion, literature and art. We hope that everyone who wants to can get to know this rich spiritual heritage.
We invite you to work together and to friendly, confidential conversation about everything that is most important and interesting for you.

Yours sincerely, Jakow Feldmann

HUMOR EVENING "WE STILL LAUGHING..."

On December 14, 2009, a humor evening was held in the authors' club "Wort".

As is well known, laughter heals. All the participants of the evening were convinced of this - humor admirers, authors themselves and spectators.

Laughter, jokes, relieved worries, good mood.... One got the desire to hold such meetings traditionally. There was also a good reason to laugh: these were wonderful humorous drawings and cartoons by Russian caricaturists, witty, full of irony stories by Alexander Kovarsky, Mikhail Prudovsky, Semon Kogan, poignant fables by Roza Podolskaya, apt aphorisms by Arkady Kogan, cheerful poems by Sergey Loskutov.

The audience enthusiastically applauded each performer, understanding -

humor is what stimulates
Even if someone suffers
Even if someone loses too
From the humor he rather gets.

MEETING WITH ARTIST MARGRIT VON SPREKELSEN

On November 29, 2009 in the authors' club "Word" there was a meeting with the artist

Margrit von Sprekelsen

"My life is my art",says the artist. Her creativity, intellect and openness to the world combine with some childish naivety and amazing ability to believe and dream about the future.

Several supporters of her talent, who packed the auditorium, were able to make sure of it. The artist showed and commented on her work, which aroused great interest among viewers.

EVENING DEDICATED TO HEALING NUTRITION

On October 27, 2009, an evening dedicated to health problems was held in the Authors' Club of the magazine "Word".

"How to get healthy"– this is the name of the rubric that arouses constant interest among our readers. Within this column, doctor Irina Keller continued the presentation of a new way of diagnostics and treatment of body diseases. She reminded listeners about the method of non-linear computer analysis and its role in diagnosis, recently introduced by our guest from Moscow Dr. JA Shovkoplyas was presented. After that, she dealt extensively with the questions of healing nutrition through the application of this method.

The express diagnostics of the functional state of all physiological systems of the human organism is the cornerstone. The program-preparing diagnostic and curative complex allows to determine the development of pathological processes in their initial stages, when the disease is just beginning and its manifestations are still absent. Namely, this fact allows the doctor to assign the patient a recovery program that will prevent the further development of the disease and its transition to the clinical stage.

Healing nutrition is part of this program. Optimal physiological nutrition, necessary for a specific person, can become quite a powerful healing factor. In such way, changing the diet, the health can be affected. Even Hippocrates said: "Let your food turn into your medicine...", meaning that food has a healing effect.

At the next examination, assessing the dynamics of the body condition, the doctor makes sure of the effectiveness of recommended healing nutrition.
Thus, the perspective of the using method in sick diet is confirmed. Healing nutrition is an indispensable part of modern strategy of prevention and treatment of respective diseases.

LITERARY - MUSICAL EVENING "RUSSIAN RHYMS"

On October 13, 2009 the literary-musical evening took place in the authors' club "Word".

We would like to anticipate sayingthat the evening succeeded. He showed that poetry in Hamburg does not just exist "in itself and for itself", in that it is diverse and interesting and the public can understand and perceive it. Although the auditorium was not full, this did not seem to have confused the participants, in fact to please them. The atmosphere of the evening was more comfortable and trusting. It can rightly be called a festival of poetry and music.
The singer group "With song through life" sang songs based on poems by Hamburg poets.

The singer group inventory:
Daniel Lachman – violin;
Viktor Bauer - keyboards;
Anna Kapunova and Natalia Dobrovolskaya – lead singers;
Bronislava Panfilova – evening guide;
Iosiv Mirenson - artistic director, musician and guitarist.
Poets Mikhail Koltchinsky, Friedrich Zolotkovsky, Semon Kogan read their poems, told about future artistic plans, presented new editions of their books and answered viewers' questions.

During the evening songs, music, poems sounded and the spectators did not want to disperse. One would have wished that such event evenings would mark the start of a renewed public interest in poetry.

In our opinion, author recitation is a separate genre. When poets read their favorite poems at such evenings, one can perhaps get an idea of the poetic "landscape" of our city. This indisputably increases the interest of the people of Hamburg in their poets and musicians, in their creative participation.
